Project Contact
Provide patient care on the double.
Emergency department visits often generate high levels of anxiety for patients and family members. As a Project Contact volunteer, you will facilitate various aspects of the visit to improve the overall experience and contribute to quality healthcare. You will work directly with patients, families, and medical professionals while observing and learning in a modern fast-paced emergency room. You will help feed patients, attend to non-medical needs, stock supplies, transport patients and retrieve medications as you make the most of compassionate care and good communication skills.
Project Contact volunteers become part of the Emergency Department team, serving in four areas: Treatment, Registration/Triage, Rapid Evaluation Unit, and Pediatric ED.
Previous patient care experience is preferred.
Please note: This is a volunteer service experience, not a shadowing experience. This program requires a Project Contact orientation as well as eight hours of training beyond the general orientation.
We would love to hear from you if you are: enrolled in a pre-health or nursing program, a post-baccalaureate student, a mature college student preparing for a career in medicine, compassionate, can remain calm in stressful and difficult situations, possess critical thinking skills, able to speak a second language (not required)
Minimum Commitment: Two four hour shifts per week for a total of at least 150 hours and six months
Times: Seven days a week, 8:00 am to 11:00 pm.
