A newly renovated pediatrics unit playroom was recently opened at NewYork-Presbyterian Brooklyn Methodist Hospital. The renovation was made possible by a grant from the enCourage Kids Foundation.

Wilhelmina (Willie) M. Manzano, M.A., R.N. N.E.A.- B.C., senior vice president and chief nursing executive at NewYork-Presbyterian, has been appointed to a new role as chief quality officer. In addition to leading nursing across the NewYork-Presbyterian’s campuses and locations, Ms. Manzano now oversees quality, performance improvement, patient safety, and infection prevention and control functions, as well as Joint Commission and regulatory compliance activities.

Dr. Christine Salvatore has been named chief of the Division of Pediatric Infectious Diseases in the Department of Pediatrics at NewYork-Presbyterian/Weill Cornell Medical Center and Weill Cornell Medicine. An expert in general pediatric infectious diseases, Dr. Salvatore is leading an expansion of the division’s clinical, research and education programs.

The Commission on Cancer (CoC), a quality program of the American College of Surgeons (ACS) has granted Three-Year Accreditation with multiple Commendations to the cancer program at NewYork-Presbyterian (NYP) Lawrence Hospital which received its original accreditation in 1988.

NewYork-Presbyterian has named Michael Breslin chief financial officer, effective January 1, 2018. He will succeed Phyllis Lantos, who is transitioning to a new role as a senior advisor to Dr. Steven J. Corwin, president and CEO of NewYork-Presbyterian.

Curry Automotive’s Subaru dealerships and The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society of Connecticut, Westchester and Hudson Valley selected NewYork-Presbyterian Hudson Valley Hospital as a recipient of “Subaru’s Love Promise” campaign for the second year in a row. The nationwide campaign invited Subaru customers in June to write a “care card,” a note of hope and inspiration, to be tucked in a package for cancer patients that includes a blanket.

A pair of surgeons at NewYork-Presbyterian Brooklyn Methodist Hospital recently employed a new, minimally invasive procedure to treat pulmonary embolisms (blood clot in the lungs). The Hospital is now one of only a handful of institutions in the tri-state area to offer this new treatment.

The 19th Annual Health Care’s Most Wired® survey, released by the American Hospital Association’s (AHA) Health Forum and published annually by Health & Hospital Networks (H&HN), has recognized NewYork-Presbyterian as one of the nation’s “Most Wired” hospitals of 2017.
