What initially began as an out-of- the-box idea recently passed the decade mark; last week, NewYork-Presbyterian/Hudson Valley Hospital celebrated the 10th anniversary of its “NoWait” Emergency Room. The hospital’s 24-hour emergency room, which sees 40,000 patients annually, is one of the busiest emergency departments in Westchester County, and is undergoing a $4.2 million renovation that is expected to be completed in the Spring of 2017.

New clinical trials have shown that a scalp-cooling cap can reduce chemotherapy-induced hair loss in breast cancer patients, and Columbia University and NewYork-Presbyterian oncologist Dawn Hershman, MD, says the time is right for U.S. providers to offer the treatment to their patients.

Dr. David Carr-Locke has been recruited as clinical director of the Center for Advanced Digestive Care (CADC) at NewYork-Presbyterian/Weill Cornell Medical Center, where he will be reporting to the Executive Directors. He has also been recruited as a professor of medicine at Weill Cornell Medicine. Dr. Carr-Locke joins the institutions from Mount Sinai Beth Israel Medical Center, New York where he was chief of the Division of Digestive Diseases and associate chair of the Department of Medicine. He was formerly director of endoscopy at Brigham and Women’s Hospital, Boston.

The New York State Division of the American Trauma Society awarded Dr. Steven Stylianos with the “Trauma Physician of Distinction Award,” for his contribution to trauma care excellence in 2016. Dr. Stylianos, Chief of Pediatric Surgery at NewYork-Presbyterian/Morgan Stanley Children's Hospital was nominated by his peers around the New York State Trauma Community in recognition for his dedication to improving trauma care and the trauma system throughout New York State.
