A new method for testing urinary tract infections yields more information than what conventional methods can offer, according to new research from investigators at Weill Cornell Medicine, Cornell’s Meinig School of Biomedical Engineering and NewYork-Presbyterian.

Today, NewYork-Presbyterian Medical Group Brooklyn celebrated the grand opening of new medical offices at 38 Sixth Avenue with a ribbon-cutting ceremony.

NewYork-Presbyterian has named Mary Beth Claus group senior vice president, chief legal officer and general counsel, effective March 2019. She joins from Indiana University Health, where she served as senior vice president and general counsel. Claus will succeed Maxine Frank, Esq., who is transitioning from her position as executive vice president, chief legal officer and general counsel of NewYork-Presbyterian, to a new role as a senior advisor.

Dr. Massimo Loda, an internationally renowned molecular pathologist, has been appointed chair of the Department of Pathology and Laboratory Medicine at Weill Cornell Medicine and pathologist-in-chief at NewYork-Presbyterian/Weill Cornell Medical Center, effective Feb. 1.

Dr. Wendy K. Chung, the Kennedy Family Professor of Pediatrics and Medicine at Columbia University Vagelos College of Physicians and Surgeons and a clinical and molecular geneticist and physician at NewYork-Presbyterian/Columbia University Irving Medical Center, has received the Academy Medal for Distinguished Contributions in Biomedical Science from The New York Academy of Medicine.

The National Cancer Institute (NCI) has awarded a four-year grant to Columbia University Irving Medical Center and the Herbert Irving Comprehensive Cancer Center to establish the Columbia Cancer Training Program for Resident-Investigators (CAPRI). The new program will train residents from a variety of medical disciplines at NewYork-Presbyterian/Columbia University Irving Medical Center to conduct high-impact, patient-centered cancer research.

NewYork-Presbyterian Lower Manhattan Hospital launched Room Service this weekend, a new dining program offering carefully curated fresh meals that are made to order upon request. The program empowers patients to take control of what they eat and when they eat, and the new menu items reflect the cultural diversity of the patient population.

NewYork-Presbyterian won the 2018 Excellence in Health Care Facility Management Award for its water safety management program, which helps protect vulnerable patients from waterborne hazards. The award, presented by the American Society for Health Care Engineering (ASHE) of the American Hospital Association, was announced during National Health Care Facility and Engineering Week October 21-27.
