New York Methodist Hospital will host a free lung cancer screening awareness day. The Second Annual Fred L. Mazzilli Lung Cancer Screening Awareness Day will feature free blood pressure and spirometry screenings, giveaways, celebrity appearances and an educational lecture. Light refreshments will be served. NYM-Hospital-Pipeline-for-Defeating-Brain-Aneurysms

A procedure now offered by the Department of Surgery and Institute for Neurosciences at New York Methodist Hospital (NYM) is giving new hope to patients with certain types of cerebral aneurysms—blister-like bulges in the wall of a blood vessel within the brain. NYM is one of only three hospitals in Brooklyn to offer the procedure, which incorporates the breakthrough “Pipeline” stent. NYM is also the only medical center in the borough where the procedure is performed by a physician who specializes in both neurosurgery and neurointervention.

New York Methodist Hospital is hosting its Evening of Spirit signature event on Wednesday, October 23, 2014 from 6:30 p.m. - 9:00 p.m. The event will feature women’s health information, pampering services, amazing door prizes, goody bags, wine tastings and healthy hors d’oeuvres. New-York-Methodist-Hospital-Offers-Pediatric-Insomnia-Program

A year after the successful opening of NYM's renovated Center for Sleep Disorders and pulmonary faculty practice, the Hospital''s sleep experts have now added a pediatric insomnia program to the Center's lineup of services. The program is specifically geared toward treating insomnia—difficulty falling asleep, staying asleep or waking up repeatedly throughout the night—in children whose sleeplessness is due to behavioral or psychological factors.

New York Methodist Hospital will host Sickle Cell Awareness Day on Wednesday, September 24, 2014, from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. The event will feature free educational materials and giveaways, and NYM hematologists will be available to answer questions on sickle cell and thalassemia diseases. NYM-Cornell-Heart-Center-Celebrates-10-Year-Anniversary

"Brooklyn welcomes the New York Methodist-Cornell Heart Center," said Marty Markowitz, then-Brooklyn Borough President, during a tour of the brand new cardiac surgery suite housed on the third floor of NYM's Carrington Pavilion. It was April of 2004, and after years of intensive planning, construction and the hiring of exceptionally trained and experienced staff, the Center had just opened its doors, including one of only three cardiac surgery centers in Brooklyn.

The week of August 1-7 is recognized as World Breastfeeding Week. To mark this annual global event, New York Methodist Hospital will host World Breastfeeding Day. The event will feature free educational materials and giveaways, and an NYM certified lactation consultant will be available to answer questions. World Breastfeeding Day will take place on Tuesday, August 5, 2014 from 11:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. in the Carrington Pavilion Lobby, 506 Sixth Street, Park Slope, Brooklyn.

NYM-Hospital-Welcomes-Perry-Cook-MD-Chief-of-Oncology

New York Methodist Hospital (NYM) recently welcomed Perry Cook, MD, as its new chief of hematology and oncology and vice chairman of internal medicine. Dr. Cook came to the Hospital from NYU Langone Medical Center, where he served for almost two decades as attending oncologist and director of the adult hematopoietic stem cell transplant program. Dr. Cook now directs New York Methodist’s Division of Hematology/Oncology and ambulatory infusion (chemotherapy) center.
