New York Methodist Hospital (NYM) will host the 2011 Board of Trustees “Candlelight Gala,” on Saturday, May 14, 2011, at the Brooklyn Museum.

NYM’s surgeons are now treating a variety of gynecological conditions with minimally invasive laparoscopic and robotic procedures.

Richard Lazzaro, MD, chief of thoracic surgery at New York Methodist Hospital, recently performed the first-ever robotic assisted pulmonary pneumonectomy in New York City.

Florence Shadlen, MD, recently joined New York Methodist Hospital’s Department of Medicine as chief of geriatrics and palliative care medicine. Dr. Shadlen joins the Hospital after serving as chief of geriatrics at the VA NY Harbor Healthcare System’s Brooklyn campus. She is board-certified in both internal and geriatric medicine. Dr. Shadlen received her medical degree from Brown University. She completed fellowships in geriatric medicine at Brown and Stanford University.

In celebration of Perioperative Nurses Week, New York Methodist Hospital recently invited students from Midwood High School’s Medical Science Program to the Hospital for a special presentation and tour of NYM’s operating rooms.
