New York Methodist Hospital offers a free Breastfeeding Support Group for new mothers. This group meets weekly on Tuesdays from 2:30 p.m. to 3:30 p.m. The Breastfeeding Support Group focuses on providing encouragement and information for mothers and their newborns, from birth to three months old. A certified lactation consultant leads the group. The meetings take place in the Hospital's Wesley House, Room 3K-C, 501 Sixth Street, Park Slope, Brooklyn. The New York Methodist Hospital Cancer Support Group will meet on Thursday, April 7, 2011 from 3:00 p.m. to 4:30 p.m. Both a physician and a chaplain lead the group. Often as we age, the number of medications we're prescribed increases and our pill boxes begin to overflow. Wednesday, April 13, 2011 from 2:30 p.m. to 3:30 p.m., Fabienne Vastey, Pharm.D., Clinical Coordinator for New York Methodist Hospital's Surgery Intensive Care Unit, will offer a free lecture, "Pills, Pills, Pills." The first portion of the lecture will include an overview of commonly prescribed medications and their medical warnings; the second portion of this interactive presentation will provide seniors with an opportunity to bring all of their current prescribed pills and show them to a licensed pharmacist to learn whether there are any potentially problematic interactions. The lecture will take place at Brooklyn College student Center, Fifth Floor, located at East 27 Street and Campus Road, Midwood, Brooklyn. Refreshments will be served. Approximately 400,000 Americans are living with multiple sclerosis (MS), and each week 200 additional individuals are diagnosed. New York Methodist Hospital offers a free support group for individuals diagnosed with MS during the past two years. The Living with MS Support Group offers information and a place to begin to discuss concerns, experiences and resources. The group meets weekly on Thursdays beginning on April 21, 2011 from 7:00 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. The meetings take place in the Hospital's Spine and Arthritis Center located on the second floor of the Medical Office Pavilion, Reception Area #2, 263 Seventh Avenue, Park Slope, Brooklyn. Obesity is an epidemic that impacts over nine million Americans. More and more people who are affected by obesity are seeking information about surgical weight reduction. New York Methodist Hospital offers a free Surgical Weight Reduction Information Seminar and Support Group. This month the group will meet on Wednesday, April 13, 2011 from 6:00 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. and on Thursday, April 28, 2011 from 5:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. During the first 30 minutes of the seminar, a surgeon will conduct an information session for individuals who are interested in learning about the surgery. A 90-minute support group meeting, open to pre- and post-operative patients will follow the information session.
