PGY2 Emergency Medicine
The PGY2 emergency medicine pharmacy residency is a full-time training program designed to build on experiences gained in the PGY1 year and to provide a well-rounded experience leading to the development of expert knowledge, skills, and clinical leadership in the practice of emergency medicine pharmacy. This 12-month program through NewYork-Presbyterian Hospital offers training opportunities in emergency medicine pharmacy practice at two academic medical centers and multiple trauma centers that collectively see more than 250,000 ED visits annually. Training sites include Weill Cornell Medical Center (Level I Adult and Level II Pediatric Trauma Center), Columbia University Irving Medical Center/Morgan Stanley Children’s Hospital (Level I Pediatric Trauma Center), and Brooklyn Methodist Hospital (Level II Adult Trauma Center). Ultimately, the resident will be provided with opportunities to function independently as an emergency medicine practitioner by conceptualizing and integrating accumulated experience and knowledge and incorporating both into the provision of patient care. Upon completion of the program, the resident is expected to demonstrate competency in the area of emergency medicine pharmacotherapy, written and oral communication, and research. Graduates of the program will be prepared to pursue board certification and employment as an emergency medicine specialist within advanced patient care, academic, or other specialized positions.
