These procedures include:
- Total knee replacement
- Partial knee replacement
- Total hip replacement
- Hip resurfacing
- Shoulder replacement
- Complex revisions
How do I know if I need joint replacement surgery?
You may need joint replacement surgery if you are experiencing one or more of the following:
- Persistent pain even when your joint is at rest, making sleep difficult
- Pain even after using non-surgical options such as medications or physical therapy
- Difficulty working or enjoying recreational activities
- Avoiding the use of the joint because of significant pain
- Reaching the point when pain controls your entire life
What to expect from joint replacement surgery
Once your surgery is scheduled, a pre-operative screening nurse and case manager will contact you for a consultation and pre-operative assessment. Often, a physical therapy evaluation will be scheduled as well. These meetings not only provide us with important information about your medical condition, lifestyle, goals, and expectations, but they also help us determine the best approach for your treatment and recovery needs.
After surgery, you’ll recover in a private patient room where our orthopedic nurses will focus on your care and pain management. A physical therapist may also provide you with a personalized program to help you regain skills and get back to your everyday life.
Joint replacement patient education classes
If you’re considering joint replacement surgery or already have it scheduled, we invite you to learn what to expect at our monthly pre-operative Joint Replacement Patient Education class. This course provides an overview of the joint replacement process, introduces you to the multidisciplinary orthopedic care team, and outlines the post-operative and rehabilitative experience. You'll also learn about the home recovery environment and any special equipment you may need, as well as the management of other health problems. Classes are free of charge.
