Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery Residency Training Program

NewYork-Presbyterian

Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery Residency Training Program

About the Program

Close interaction with the faculty and postgraduate students in orthodontics, periodontics, endodontics and prosthetics at the dental school strengthens the resident's background in comprehensive case management in orthognathic, pre-prosthetic, and implant surgery. In addition, residents annually travel to South America with a team from the CUIMC Craniofacial Center to treat cleft lip and palate children, operating on approximately 175 patients per trip.

During the residency years, a salary is paid at the level of training. Tuition payment is required for the medical school portion of the program, and financial aid is available.

The division of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery is within the NYP/Columbia Department of Hospital Dentistry which includes 10 residents in Pediatric Dentistry, 6 General Dental Residents (GPR), and 3 Oral and Maxillofacial Pathology Residents.

Medical School Cost

In 2017, the Columbia University Vagelos College of Physicians and Surgeons announced the launch of a sweeping scholarship program that made it the first medical school in the nation to meet 100 percent of demonstrated financial need with scholarships for all students who qualify as part of their need-based financial aid package. Effective for the 2019-20 year, all families (of both new and continuing students) whose total annual income falls below $125,000 a year will be assessed a zero contribution from income; there may still be a parental contribution assessed on the family’s assets. OMFS-MD students qualify the same as all MD students for the Vagelos scholarship, and some OMFS residents have received the full scholarship.
