About Our Epic Community Connect Program

Community Connect provides private practice physicians access to the leading electronic health record platform used by NewYork-Presbyterian, Weill Cornell Medicine, and Columbia University Irving Medical Center – Epic. With this access, all your patient information is available to you at your practice, in our hospitals, and in your pocket through mobile apps available for smartphones and tablets. This includes visit encounters, hospitalizations, notes and letters, test results, orders, medications and treatment plans. The Epic system you receive access to is the same system used across NewYork-Presbyterian, Weill Cornell Medicine, and Columbia. Epic is a platform that is comprised of multiple integrated, purpose-built applications for practice management, specialty-specific care, population health, and much more. In fact, Epic is rated the #1 overall software suite for electronic health records by KLAS and has been for 14 years running. 

In addition, more hospitals and ambulatory clinics use Epic than any other EHR system. With Care Everywhere, Epic’s secure network, you are able to update your patient records automatically with data from other healthcare organizations that use interoperable EHR systems. With the rich clinical history available to you, you can make more informed decisions when providing care. 

Epic is also creating a strong foundation for the application of artificial intelligence in healthcare delivery. Shared Records and Data Privacy

Gain access to over 12 million patient records with rich clinical data, and the ability to access outside records through connected health information exchanges. Your billing data remains private and exclusive to your practice.

Trained by Us

You and every member of your team that will use Epic is trained by us. Our learning programs are hybrid, comprised of both interactive eLearning lessons, as well as live virtual training. Training is mandatory and required for every person given access to our Epic system.

Personalized by You

You are able to personalize aspects of the Epic system to make it a more efficient tool for how you practice. In a dedicated session with a member of our Learning Team, you will learn to:

  • Adjust your workspace layout
  • Customize Chart Review to focus on the information most relevant for you
  • Set your favorite orders
  • Create order panels of your commonly used orders with your ordering preferences set as the default options
  • Organize your preference list
  • Create your own SmartPhrases for text you commonly type
  • Set your favorite SmartTexts to use when writing notes
     
Guiding Principles
  • This is a shared system. You may need to embrace changes that vary from how your practice operates today.
  • Our existing governance, comprised of clinical leadership groups (CLGs) and access and revenue cycle readiness (ARCR), determine which enhancements/modifications to the system are appropriate and what is prioritized.
  • Your practice is held to the same standards for security, privacy, and HIPAA compliance as every member of our enterprise.
  • Continuity of care is paramount. Patient and physician satisfaction are our priorities.
