Kids are active beings. Jumping, running, playing, and dancing—they like to be on the move! When an orthopedic injury or disorder gets in the way, it affects a child’s quality of life and can interfere with school and sports. At NewYork-Presbyterian Brooklyn Methodist Hospital, we offer high-quality services for a wide range of pediatric orthopedic issues, ranging from common injuries such as broken bones and sprains to more complex problems such as limb length deformities and scoliosis. Pediatric Emergency & Urgent Care
For orthopedic injuries or conditions that require immediate care, NewYork-Presbyterian Brooklyn Methodist offers a pediatric emergency service located in the hospital’s emergency room. This self-contained area is staffed by physicians certified in both emergency medicine and pediatrics as well as registered nurses with specialized training. Everything in our program is geared toward treating children: all equipment is "child-sized," patient gowns feature cartoon characters, and the staff is sensitive to the needs of both caregivers and children. The pediatric ER and its separate pediatric waiting room are open 24/7. The entrance to the ER is on the southeast side of 7th Avenue at 6th Street.
Our Approach to Care
Children can heal quickly from orthopedic injuries, such as broken bones. That's why it's important to get treatment from a specialty-trained pediatric orthopedic surgeon sooner rather than later to ensure proper healing. Our pediatric orthopedists are accessible to you and your family and strive to make appointments as soon as possible--typically within the same week of your call and often sooner.
We understand that you're concerned about the effects of your child's injury or condition on their comfort, function, self-esteem, and school experience, and we take a holistic approach to planning care. We talk directly to you AND your child when explaining our treatment plans, so they can feel involved and understand the care they’ll receive.
