Dr. Charlie Shaffer is an attending physician at NewYork-Presbyterian Westchester Behavioral Health, where he serves as the unit chief for an academic ward specializing in the treatment of young adults as well as patients with personality disorders. His current research is centered on the use of ketamine in the inpatient psychiatric setting. Previously, Dr. Shaffer carried out his residency in the Payne Whitney Department of Psychiatry at NewYork-Presbyterian-Weill Cornell Medicine, where he served as Chief Resident. During training, Dr. Shaffer helped develop and operate the Ketamine Infusion Service to treat inpatients with treatment-refractory depression. He also obtained advanced training in psychotherapy at the Personality Disorders Institute.
