Is there an age requirement?
Yes. The minimum age for volunteering at NewYork-Presbyterian Queens is 16.
Is there an application process?
Yes. It involves an application, medical clearance, and orientation.
How long does the application process take?
On average, the process can take up to 4-6 weeks.
How long will you hold my application?
Your application will be kept on file for three months.
Will I be able to shadow a doctor?
No. Due to confidentiality laws, the shadowing of medical professionals is not permitted.
Is there a dress code?
Yes. Volunteer are required to wear dress pants and the approved NYP Queens Volunteer Polo shirt. No jeans, shorts, spandex, sweatpants are permitted. Closed shoes with stockings or socks are required. Sandals, flip-flops, or backless or open-toed shoes are also not appropriate. Full details about appropriate attire and volunteer uniforms are provided at the orientation.
Are there research positions available?
Research is not a volunteer opportunity. To inquire about research, call the Lang Research Center at 718-670-2914.
Does volunteering lead to employment?
No. Volunteer service does not lead to employment.
I am a certified EKG Tech/phlebotomist/EMT. Will I be able to practice these skills as a volunteer?
No. Volunteers are not permitted to perform clinical functions or invasive procedures.
