How We Treat Sports Injuries
Nonsurgical treatments, including medications, injections, rehabilitation, and regenerative therapies, are tried first. When surgery is necessary, we often use arthroscopic and other minimally invasive techniques to repair injuries; operating through small incisions using slender instruments enables you to recover more quickly and with less discomfort than open surgery. We'll perform a comprehensive examination and order imaging tests to make an accurate diagnosis and match you with the most effective therapies for you.
Pediatric Sports Medicine
As more children and adolescents engage in competitive sports, pediatric sports injuries are becoming more common. At NewYork-Presbyterian Queens, we recognize that children and teens should not be treated as small adults--their growth and healing potential must be considered in their treatment plans. Using nonsurgical and surgical approaches, our physicians treat young athletes' injuries to help them return to the field or the court as comfortably and safely as possible.
Concussion Care
Every minute counts when identifying and caring for a concussion in athletes. Our physicians are experienced in diagnosing concussions and use an individualized approach to support the recovery of each patient. Using the ImPACT computerized evaluation system, the team monitors an athlete's recovery and readiness to ensure that they can safely return to activities. Our physicians also provide guidance on how to recognize and avoid concussions in the future.

The Emergency Department at NewYork-Presbyterian Queens is a designated Level I Trauma Center—the highest designation available by New York State for an emergency department. An orthopedic surgeon is available around the clock to provide consultation when needed in an emergency.
