It is no secret that the United States —in particular, New York — needs more people to register as living organ donors. According to the National Kidney Foundation, more than 100,000 people in the country are awaiting a kidney transplant.

Lincoln Center’s premier summer dance party Midsummer Night Swing today announced its 2017 season, running June 27 to July 15. Now in its 29th year, the series presents 15 evenings of social dance under the stars, featuring a lineup of artists who reflect the diversity of New York City.

Dr. Rosemary Ventura has been appointed Chief Nursing Informatics Officer for NewYork-Presbyterian, effective May 1. In this newly established role, Dr. Ventura is responsible for leveraging technology and analytics to improve nursing practices and patient care. She will oversee and evaluate administrative and clinical software, electronic medical records, communication tools, mobile applications and all other technologies that support nursing workflow, efficiency and patient safety.

NewYork-Presbyterian Hospital has announced that it will roll out paid parental leave for its employees who are new parents. The new policy is the most comprehensive of its kind among New York City hospitals and healthcare systems, offering new parents two to six weeks of paid time off, extended leave for six months and continuation of benefits, in addition to flex time currently available for new parents.

NewYork-Presbyterian Brooklyn Methodist Hospital recently held its annual Volunteer Gala at the Brooklyn Botanic Garden. Approximately 240 volunteers attended the event, which featured a cocktail hour in the garden, dinner in the glass Palm House and speeches from Hospital administrators.

Strokes – 80 percent of which are caused by a blood clot that blocks blood flow to the brain – are medical emergencies that require immediate attention. A single transplant of microbes contained in the stool of a healthy donor is a safe and effective way to increase diversity of good bacteria in the guts of patients with ulcerative colitis, according to new research from Weill Cornell Medicine and NewYork-Presbyterian.
