Autism Speaks, North America's largest autism science and advocacy organization, is holding its 12th annual Westchester/Fairfield Walk Now for Autism Speaks fundraising and awareness event on Sunday, June 2, 2013, at NewYork-Presbyterian Hospital/Westchester Division in White Plains, N.Y. Registration for the event opens at 9:00 a.m. All event proceeds will support Autism Speaks' work to increase awareness about the growing autism epidemic, innovative autism research and family services, and advocacy efforts for the needs of individuals with autism and their families.

NewYork-Presbyterian Hospital ranks No. 1 in the New York tri-state area, No. 1 in New York state and No. 7 in the nation on U.S. News & World Report's annual "Best Hospitals" survey, released today. The hospital — one of the largest and most comprehensive in the country, with nearly 2,600 beds — ranks third in the nation for cardiology and heart surgery, nephrology, and neurology and neurosurgery.

Ten exceptional physicians at NewYork-Presbyterian/Morgan Stanley Children's Hospital have been named the inaugural Samberg Scholars in Children's Health, a newly endowed appointment made possible by the generous donation of $25 million from hospital trustee Arthur Samberg and his wife, Rebecca. The scholars were officially appointed at a ceremony yesterday at the hospital, attended by Mr. and Mrs. Samberg and about 100 colleagues and supporters of the new scholars.

Crowded shopping centers, visits from out-of-town relatives, and the pressure of preparing holiday meals can all summon one universal reaction: stress. The holidays may be the season of love and celebration, but sometimes festivities can become overwhelming.

"You don't have to completely cut back on snacks and sugars to ensure that your child eats a well-balanced meal," explains Dr. Joel Lavine, chief of pediatric gastroenterology at NewYork-Presbyterian/Morgan Stanley Children's Hospital. "Kids can still get the sugars they crave from low-fat snacks and fruits, while parents are satisfied with the nutritional content."

Winter is a special time for celebration. It should also be a time for added caution if you or someone in your family is an older adult. It is the season for falls, slips on icy streets and other dangers that can be especially harmful for older adults.

Spring and summer are not the only seasons that bring misery to those with allergies. The winter months can be brutal for people sensitive to mold spores and dust mites.

It's never too early to start protecting yourself against sun damage — and if you are a teenager, this advice is especially important.
