New York Methodist Hospital (NYM) has brought point-of-care (at the site of patient care) ultrasound technology to the Emergency Department, the Intensive Care Unit, and other areas of the Hospital where it can provide fast, accurate answers to many of the urgent questions that arise in acute situations.
Behavioral-Intervention-for-Weight-Loss-at-NYM
New York Methodist Hospital (NYM) now offers short-term cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT) for patients who want to lose weight. CBT is a component of NYM’s Comprehensive Weight Management Program for adults. While other medical and surgical services of the Weight Management Program are available to treat overweight or obese individuals, CBT is a supplementary, drug-free tool that can help those who want to address the mental hurdles that stop them from keeping the pounds off.

The week of August 1-7 is recognized as World Breastfeeding Week. To mark this annual global event, New York Methodist Hospital (NYM) will host World Breastfeeding Day. The event will feature free educational materials and giveaways, and an NYM certified lactation consultant will be available to answer questions. World Breastfeeding Day will be celebrated on Wednesday, August 1, 2012 from 10:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. in the Carrington Pavilion Lobby, 506 Sixth Street, Park Slope, Brooklyn. New York Methodist Hospital offers a free Breastfeeding Support Group for new mothers. This group, which is also open to mothers who did not deliver their babies at NYM, meets weekly on Tuesdays from 2:30 p.m. to 3:30 p.m. The Breastfeeding Support Group focuses on providing encouragement and information for mothers and their newborns, from birth to three months old. A certified lactation consultant leads the group.
NYM-Receives-Highest-Stroke-Care-Honors
To achieve the Get With The Guidelines–Stroke Gold Plus Performance Achievement Award, and also gain a place on the Target: Stroke Honor Roll, is no small feat. The awards are sponsored by the American Heart Association/American Stroke Association (AHA/ASA), and only one out of nine New York City hospitals received each for 2012.
Advanced-Treatment-for-Barretts-Esophagus-at-NYM
New York Methodist Hospital (NYM) now offers advanced treatment for Barrett’s esophagus, a precancerous condition commonly associated with acid reflux. The new treatment greatly reduces the chances that a patient with Barrett’s esophagus will ultimately develop cancer.
Santa-and-Brooklyn-Firefighters-Bring-Holiday-Cheer-to-NYM
On Friday, December 21, firefighters from Ladder Company 122, Engine Company 220, and Ladder Company 105 joined Santa Claus to bring toys to New York Methodist Hospital's pediatrics patients.
