Program Services

The team at The Outlook at Westchester works collaboratively with patients to understand and modify their behaviors. The program is designed to treat male and female adults and adolescents with eating disorders, age 13 and older, in an age-appropriate setting. It includes thorough medical and psychiatric evaluations, including psychiatric histories, family assessments, physical examinations, and psychological testing, if indicated.

We tailor an individualized treatment and nutritional plan for each patient and engage families throughout the recovery process. Patients who complete an inpatient stay will be referred for appropriate treatment following discharge.

We incorporate the latest medical evidence into our program's treatment approach to teach patients how to make positive behavioral changes. Cognitive Behavioral Therapy helps patients modify their eating behaviors, make the best choices, and develop healthy patterns they can use for the rest of their lives, long after they leave our facility. To assist patients in accomplishing their goals, we offer:

  • Supervised meals and meal preparation activities
  • Nutritional counseling
  • Meal process discussions after meals
  • Individual, group, and family therapy
  • Pharmacotherapy
  • Social skills training
  • Therapeutic activities
  • Vocational evaluation

Family therapy: We involve family members throughout the course of each patient's stay with us, and offer them support and education to make the patient's transition back home an easier one. We understand that eating disorders can affect the whole family, especially when the patient is young, and we provide family therapy to help support the whole family through the experience.

Accredited teaching: School-age patients meet with a certified teacher each weekday for classroom time and spend the afternoons completing homework assignments. We work closely with their local school districts to ensure continuity of relevant coursework.

Aftercare planning: We understand that patients need continued support after they complete inpatient treatment. We discuss plans for aftercare throughout each patient's hospitalization.
