Newborn Nursery
Each year, some 2,000 to 3,000 babies are born at NewYork-Presbyterian/Lower Manhattan Hospital. Pediatricians in the Hospital's state-of-the-art newborn nursery, which is adjacent to the Mother Baby Unit, care for healthy, full-term babies and promote mother and infant bonding immediately following birth. This unit has in place sophisticated technology to provide maximum security for our newborns.
Our staff are committed to providing family-centered care that focuses on the family as a whole. During newborn examinations, they work together with the family to provide guidance, information, and encouragement that the family will need to bring their newborn home.
In addition, our pediatric hospitalists serve as primary physicians for infants in the newborn nursery who do not have an identified pediatrician. They also perform newborn examinations and New York State mandated screenings.
