NewYork-Presbyterian’s LeFrak Center for Robotic Surgery is New York City’s premier destination for medical and minimally invasive surgical care for the treatment of urologic disease and cancers. The LeFrak Center uses advanced technology that allows our physicians to diagnose and treat urologic conditions with precision and ease.
Why Choose Us
NewYork-Presbyterian’s LeFrak Center for Robotic Surgery balances technologically advanced surgical robots and highly experienced surgeons to provide evidence-based, person-centered care to patients from around the world. We place additional emphasis on a supportive and knowledgeable practice staff to guide patients and their families through a seamless care path in a comfortable and welcoming environment.
Renowned urologist Jim C. Hu, MD, MPH leads a team of internationally recognized physicians and surgeons. This dynamic team of urologic experts, who are on the faculty of Weill Cornell Medicine, works in all subspecialty areas of urology, with a particular emphasis and expertise in treating patients’ urologic and oncologic health conditions by using minimally invasive and robotic-assisted surgeries.
Dr. Hu is widely known for his contributions to prostate cancer research with his research having been published in the New England Journal of Medicine, the Journal of the American Medical Association, the Journal of Clinical Oncology, the journal European Urology, and the Journal of Urology. This research has been cited in The New York Times, The Wall Street Journal, The Boston Globe, The Washington Post, and other national news outlets. He also leads 4 multi-center research trials totaling $11 million in funding from the National Cancer Institute and the Patient Centered Outcomes Research Institute. These evaluate new diagnostic and therapeutic approaches, such as MRI-targeted transperineal biopsy and Retzius sparing robotic assisted radical prostatectomy that may be safer techniques that maintain quality of life.
The LeFrak Center is part of NewYork-Presbyterian. A generous endowment from the Richard S. and Karen LeFrak Charitable Foundation helped fund the construction and development of the LeFrak Center’s state-of-the-art medical facility.
Message from the Director
NewYork-Presbyterian’s LeFrak Center for Robotic Surgery is at the cutting edge of image-guided diagnostic and therapeutic options tailored to individual patients’ unique challenges. We bring the latest advances to minimize a patient’s pain and inconvenience. Recent advances include image-guided focal ablation of prostate cancer and high intensity focused ultrasound (HIFU), so that patients maximize their quality of life and minimize restrictions on their daily activities. We are also one of the few centers that offer PSMA molecular imaging to most accurately stage prostate cancer. We offer the most optimal approach for a patient’s situation, including open and laparoscopic treatment options.
