Billing & Insurance
Your hospital bill will reflect all of the hospital services you received during your stay. Charges fall into two categories: a basic daily rate, which includes your room, meals, and nursing care; and, secondly, charges for special services or procedures, which include the operating room, recovery room, and/or diagnostic services, such as X-rays or laboratory tests. If you have questions regarding your hospital bill or questions regarding your insurance, please contact Patient Accounts at 914-734-3858.

Important Information about Paying for Your Care at NewYork-Presbyterian Hudson Valley Hospital
NewYork-Presbyterian Hudson Valley Hospital is a participating provider in many health plan networks. Some health plans use smaller networks for certain products they offer, so it is important to check whether we participate in the specific plan you are covered by. Our list will tell you if we do not participate in all of a health plan’s products. It is also advised that you check with your insurance company as to the status of our participation.
It is also important for you to know that the physician services you receive in the hospital are not included in the hospital’s charges. Physicians who provide services at the hospital may be independent voluntary physicians or they may be employed by the hospital. Physicians bill for their services separately and may or may not participate in the same health plans as the hospital. You should check with the physician arranging your hospital services to determine which plans that physician participates in. Plan participation information for physicians employed by the hospital can be found here.
NewYork Presbyterian/Hudson Valley Hospital contracts with a number of physician groups, such as anesthesiologists, radiologists and pathologists, to provide services at the hospital. Contact information for the physician groups the hospital has contracted with is available here. You should contact these groups directly to find out which health plans they participate in.
Hospitals are required by law to make available information about their standard charges for the items and services they provide. This information is available here or by contacting Patient Accounts at 914-734-3858.
If you do not have health insurance, you may be eligible for assistance in paying your hospital bills. Information about financial assistance is available here or you may contact our Financial Assistance Office at 914-734-3518.
About Your Hospital Bill
Please be aware that each time you receive services from the hospital, a separate account, for that date of service, is created. It is possible to have several accounts open at the same time.
Insurance companies listed on the front of your statement will be billed as a service to you. Insurance benefits will depend on your policy and your remaining deductibles due as well as your coinsurance and/or copayment responsibilities. Any amounts not covered by insurance are the responsibility of the guarantor or responsible party.
Please review your bill when you receive it to ensure we have all of your insurances listed in order to bill them correctly.
Physician Billing Information
You may receive additional bills from physicians who helped with you care while you were a patient at NewYork-Presbyterian Hudson Valley Hospital. These may include radiology, emergency room, anesthesia, surgeon, and physician bills. Should you have any questions regarding their bill, please contact them directly.
Billing and Collection Practices
To insure proper billing and reimbursement, NewYork-Presbyterian Hudson Valley Hospital requires proof of insurance, payment or proof of the ability to pay at the time of service.
Consistent with our mission, the hospital will not deny necessary care because of a lack of financial information or financial resources. Until financial resources are properly identified, the Hospital may reschedule elective services.
In general, it is the hospital’s policy that accounts not paid within 120 days will be reviewed for appropriate collection action. After the review, you will receive notice and accounts deemed uncollectible will be referred to a collection agency.
It is important for you to respond when you receive a statement from us. Payment plans are available on request and we will work with to establish a plan that is affordable to you. Financial Assistance is also available if you qualify.
Please contact Patient Accounts at 914-734-3858 or the Financial Counselor at 914-734-3518 if you have questions. We can help with any confusion and may be able to help with payment options.
Insurances We Participate With
We will request a copy of your identification card at the time of registration. We may also need forms that your insurance requires us to file. You may also need a referral or an authorization, depending on your plan. You will be asked to assign benefits from the insurance company directly to the hospital so that your insurance company can pay us directly for the services.
It is your responsibility to make sure the requirements of your plan have been met. Please work closely with your referring physician to insure that pre-certification is obtained as necessary for all scheduled services.
If your plan’s requirements are not followed, you may be financially responsible for all or part of the services rendered in the hospital. Some physician specialists may not participate in your healthcare plan and their services may not be covered.
