Sinusitis

Inflammation of the sinuses may be acute (short-term), such as bacterial or viral sinusitis, or chronic (long-term), due to structural abnormalities or other illnesses. Most cases of acute sinusitis resolve on their own or with antibiotics. Chronic sinusitis may be treated with antibiotics or steroid nasal sprays.

When these approaches are not enough, NewYork-Presbyterian surgeons may perform endoscopic nasal surgery to correct obstructions, promote drainage, and aid in healing. In rare cases, invasive surgery using conventional scalpel techniques may be required to remove infected areas.
