What is a Virtual Urgent Care visit?
Virtual Urgent Care provides real-time access to a doctor via video chat with a smart phone, tablet or computer seven days a week, from 8am to midnight for Adults and 8am to midnight for Pediatrics.
Who is eligible for a Virtual Urgent Care visit?
Virtual Urgent Care is available to:
- Individuals ages 18+: New York, New Jersey
- 18 years or younger: New York
Can I use Virtual Urgent Care for emergency care?
No, if you need emergency care, please call 911 or visit the closest emergency room.
Do I need to enroll to have a visit?
Yes, enrollment in NYP Connect is required before starting a Virtual Urgent Care visit, and it’s free to enroll. Enrollment only takes a few minutes and is required before starting your visit.
Can I get a prescription if needed?
Yes, medications may be provided if the doctor decides this is an appropriate course of treatment. Like an in-person appointment, the prescription will be delivered to the pharmacy of your choice, and sent on the same day. Please note, prescriptions for controlled substances are not written.
What technology is required for a Virtual Urgent Care visit?
In order to use this service, you will need:
- A webcam and a microphone
- Broadband internet, with a minimum bandwidth of 1 Mb/s
- Google Chrome, Firefox or Internet Explorer
- Windows 7, 8, or 10, or Mac OX 10.6 or later
- Adobe Flash Plug In 10.1 or later
- If on a tablet or mobile device, you will need the NYP Connect app

What will happen during my visit?
Once you are enrolled, your Virtual Urgent Care visit begins with a few short questions about the reason for your visit as well as your personal information. You will then be connected to a doctor who will evaluate your symptoms and discuss treatment options with you. Your visit will typically last about 15 minutes.
Is my visit private and secure?
Ensure that you are starting your virtual urgent care visit in a well-lit, private space. NYP respects and upholds patient confidentiality with respect to protected health information as outlined by the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act, and, subject to HIPAA regulations, will obtain express patient consent prior to sharing any patient-identifiable information to a third party for purposes other than treatment, payment or health care operations.
