Pediatric Surgery | Surgery for Children

Children whose conditions require surgery receive care from one of the board-certified pediatric surgeons who practice at NewYork-Presbyterian Brooklyn Methodist Hospital. Procedures take place in the Hospital's state-of-the-art operating suites; surgeons are assisted by specially trained nurses and technicians.

In many cases, children can go home the same day they have surgery. When hospitalization is required, children stay overnight in the pediatric unit.

Every effort is made by the staff to reassure patients and family members. To help minimize anxiety, parents remain with their children during the initial phase of anesthesia, until the child is asleep. Parents are also encouraged to be with their children in the recovery room following the procedure.
