Hand, Elbow, and Shoulder Treatment
To provide an exceptional level of care for patients who are coping with hand, wrist, and arm injuries, NewYork-Presbyterian Brooklyn Methodist Hospital provides board certified orthopedic, plastic, and reconstructive surgeons specializing in hand, elbow and shoulder surgery.
The surgeons use modern and, when possible, minimally invasive procedures to treat injuries. For example, one technique, called wrist arthroscopy, involves doctors inserting a tiny camera through a small incision in the skin. The camera allows doctors to see cartilage and the surface of bones so they can evaluate and precisely repair damaged ligaments, fractured bones and remove cysts.
The doctors treat a variety of conditions, including:
- Hand infections
- Burns
- Arthritis
- Fingertip reconstruction
- Repair of small nerves
- Trigger fingers
- Tennis elbow
- Carpal tunnel syndrome
- Finger and elbow fractions
- Congenital deformities
- Total wrist replacements
In addition to surgery, more conservative treatments include rest, exercise, splinting, anti-inflammatory medications, corticosteroid injections and ultrasound.
Orthopedic specialists at NYPBMH encourage people with upper extremity injuries to seek immediate care. Early treatment can prevent scarring and loss of motion and movement.
