Pulmonary & Critical Care Medicine Fellowship Program

Thank you for your interest in the Pulmonary and Critical Care Medicine Fellowship Program in the Division of Pulmonary, Critical Care, and Sleep Medicine at NewYork-Presbyterian Brooklyn Methodist Hospital. In addition to a standard curriculum in all aspects of inpatient and outpatient pulmonary and critical care medicine, the division also boasts a robust interventional pulmonary program, pulmonary hypertension program, pulmonary rehabilitation program, and sleep disorders center. Clinical fellows are thus afforded the opportunity to practice and learn in a variety of inpatient and outpatient clinical areas, including the medical intensive care unit, the pulmonary consultation service, the pulmonary step-down/respiratory care unit, the pulmonary physiology laboratory, the outpatient chest clinic, and the Center for Sleep Disorders. Fellows also rotate to the NewYork-Presbyterian Hospital/Columbia University Medical Center for an experience in lung transplantation and to the SUNY/Downstate Medical Center for trauma experience.

We have reason to be very proud of the academic achievements of the fellows who have enrolled in and completed our program. We have consistently posted a 100 percent pass rate in both pulmonary and critical care board exams over past ten years. In addition, our fellows have presented research at many national conferences, including the American College of Chest Physicians, American Thoracic Society, Society of Critical Care Medicine and the American College of Physicians In addition to the nine full-time pulmonary and critical care fellows, the division has four full-time faculty members, several part-time faculty members, a large number of voluntary attending physicians, two full-time dedicated nurses, a pulmonary technician, a research coordinator, and support staff.

After completing the fellowship, many of our fellows begin clinical practice in pulmonary and/or critical care medicine in the community but we have also had many trainees become faculty members in academic teaching hospitals. Others pursue further specialized training in interventional pulmonary or sleep medicine fellowships at major academic centers.
