If you or a loved one has suffered from a serious burn, we understand the physical and emotional discomfort you may be experiencing. The rehabilitation team at NewYork-Presbyterian/Weill Cornell Medical Center is proud to be affiliated with the William Randolph Hearst Burn Center, the largest comprehensive burn center in New York State and one of the largest in the nation. We are dedicated to helping you regain your function so you can return to a productive, comfortable life.
A Team of Specialists
Your therapy is coordinated by a burn surgeon, along with a team of occupational and physical therapists. When needed, a physiatrist (physician specializing in physical medicine and rehabilitation) will provide consultation as well. This specialized team approach helps you heal, recover from your burns, and readjust to daily life. Our team is experienced caring for people of all ages.
Comprehensive Burn Recovery Care
Physical, emotional, social, and/or functional rehabilitation are important components of your healing. We address all of the ways your burn is affecting your life, including how you feel emotionally and socially.
An Early Start
We begin rehabilitation early and continue it throughout all phases of your care, both in the hospital and after you return home. We believe this approach is essential to helping you achieve the life you want to lead.
Specialized Rehabilitation Services for Burn Survivors
We treat adults and pediatric patients with burns and provide support groups as well. Your burn rehabilitation treatment may include:
- Therapeutic exercise and manual techniques to restore your flexibility and function
- Splinting and management of scars
- Therapy to improve your ability to perform activities of daily living (such as self-care) and your mobility
- Transparent face masks
- Nontraditional therapies (such as tai chi and yoga)
- Interactive gaming technologies to help you regain function and mobility
