  • We provide hospital gowns, disposable underwear and pads.
  • Cord blood kit if using private donation

  • For your partner: Camera, charger/batteries, toiletries, comfortable shoes, a change of clothes and pajamas if staying overnight, snacks, reading material, money for parking, food and vending machines.

  • Jewelry/valuables
  • Breast pump
  • Hair dryer

  • Pads

How long will I stay in the hospital after giving birth?

The average length of stay for a patient with a vaginal delivery is approximately 2 nights, 3 days. The average length of stay for a patient with a cesarean delivery is approximately 3 nights, 4 days.

Does my baby need to leave the hospital in a car seat?

If you are going home in your own car, yes. If you do not have a car, your baby does not need to leave the hospital in a car seat. We recommend bringing a stroller before discharge.

Can my baby be with me in my room at all times?

At NewYork-Presbyterian Queens, we encourage “rooming-in” (keep your baby with you during your hospital stay) as a way for you to bond with your baby, learn your baby’s hunger cues, and feed on demand. Babies typically feed more than 8 times each 24-hour day for the first several weeks and rooming in lets you respond easily and quickly when your baby shows hunger cues.

What if I need help with breastfeeding?

NewYork-Presbyterian Queens is certified "Baby Friendly" for providing superior care, instruction, and assistance to mothers who choose to breastfeed their babies. From pregnancy through the early weeks of your baby’s life, we offer a host of breastfeeding support programs and resources. Our lactation consultants are available to work with you on the basics of breastfeeding positions and latching-on techniques.

Knowledgeable physicians, nurse practitioners, and certified lactation consultants are also available to meet with parents every fourth Wednesday of the month (except holidays) from 6:00-7:00 pm in the 2nd floor lounge of the hospital's mother-baby unit (near the Brown elevators) to share tips for success, boost confidence, and answer questions.

When are circumcisions done (if desired)?

NewYork-Presbyterian Queens offers circumcision after the baby is cleared by the pediatrician and prior to discharge.

How many people can I have with me in my labor room at NewYork-Presbyterian Queens?

You may have one adult with you at your bedside (this includes spouses/significant others/doulas).
