Endocrine Surgery

We are dedicated to treating conditions and provide the best overall care for individuals with problems related to the endocrine and neuroendocrine system, most commonly that of the thyroid and parathyroid glands. The treatment success is based on a multidisciplinary team approach to patient care that combines diagnostic and treatment strengths of experts from numerous medical fields, including medical endocrinologists, radiologists,  cytopathologists, medical oncologists and nephrologists. This enables us to provide patients with comprehensive, patient-centered care.

Fine-Needle Aspiration (FNA)

Some individuals often require a biopsy, also known as a fine-needle aspiration (FNA), where a small gauge needle is inserted into the nodule using ultrasound guidance to aspirate tissue from the nodule. This procedure is done in the office at initial visit. No specific preparation is required for this procedure. Individuals can resume all medications and eat prior to the procedure. Please let the doctor know if you are taking anti-coagulants prior to the procedure.

Thyroid Surgery

Thyroid surgery is performed for a variety of indications, including hyperthyroidism, thyroid goiter, thyroid nodules suspicious for and known thyroid malignancy. The surgery consists of either a total thyroidectomy (removing the entire thyroid) or a thyroid lobectomy (half of the thyroid is removed). Patients are usually admitted to the hospital on the day of their surgery and discharged the following day. Typically, they are able to resume their daily routine after several days.

Parathyroid Surgery

Parathyroid surgery is performed for overactive parathyroid glands that cause elevated parathyroid hormone levels and usually elevated calcium levels. Treatment for these conditions is most commonly surgical removal. Patients are usually admitted to the hospital on the day of their surgery and discharged either same day or the following day. Typically, they are able to resume their daily routine after several days.
