Masking and Visitation Guidelines

Dear Patients, Family Members, Support Persons, and Visitors,

At NewYork-Presbyterian, we are committed to providing you with world-class care. As part of this commitment, we continuously review our policies and procedures to ensure we are taking the necessary steps to protect everyone who comes through our doors.

Effective immediately, we have adjusted our masking policy as we are experiencing sharp increases in respiratory illnesses including influenza and COVID-19, as well as continued circulation of RSV.

Following New York State Department of Health recommendations, all visitors are now required to wear well-fitting surgical masks when visiting patients or when accompanying patients for office visits. Visitors to neonatal ICUs will continue to be offered N95 respirators as an alternative to regular surgical masks.

In outpatient clinical settings, patients are required to wear a well-fitting surgical mask. Masks are recommended for all patients in any inpatient clinical setting and particularly when interacting with visitors or healthcare personnel.

If you have any questions regarding our mask policy, please speak with a NewYork-Presbyterian team member at a nursing station, reception area, or the nearest information desk.

As a reminder:

  • Masks continue to be an effective way to prevent transmission of respiratory illnesses
  • Patients with symptoms such as a fever, cough, or rash should wear a mask at all times
  • Visitors and support persons who are sick should not visit until they are well

We thank you for your understanding and for trusting us with your care.
