Contact Isolation

Contact isolation is used to prevent diseases from spreading after touching a patient or objects in the patient’s room.

When visiting a patient:

  1. Perform hand hygiene before entering the room.

  2. Wear a gown and gloves while in the room only if you are acting as a caretaker (assisting in cleaning/toileting of the patient).

  3. Caretaker: Remove and discard gown and gloves before leaving the room.

  4. Perform hand hygiene before leaving the room.
