Rooftop Garden at NewYork-Presbyterian Lawrence Hospital Dedicated in Memory of Longtime Hospital Supporter and Board Member Victor M. Samra, Jr.

Jun 10, 2017

BRONXVILLE, NY

On Saturday, June 10, family and friends of longtime Bronxville resident, Victor M. Samra, Jr., gathered to dedicate the new Victor M. Samra Rooftop Garden at NewYork-Presbyterian Lawrence Hospital Cancer Center in his memory.

Samra was an integral part of Bronxville and dedicated years of service to the community. From 1993 to 2011, he served on the Hospital's Board of Governors, lending leadership and support to initiatives such as the construction of the Hospital's new Cancer Center. This state-of-the-art facility allows community members battling cancer to receive innovative and comprehensive cancer care close to home.

“It is fitting that our beautiful rooftop garden where patients and their families can gather to spend quiet time together will be a lasting tribute to Victor Samra," said Michael J. Fosina, MPH, FACHE, president of NewYork-Presbyterian Lawrence Hospital. "His leadership, foresight and generosity helped lay the foundation for transformational change and the delivery of high quality care to members of our community.”

“Vic was such a humble man with a fierce intelligence, who loved his family and his community," said Richard Dresdale, chairman of the Board of Directors. "He used his considerable influence to benefit Lawrence and today we are all the greater for it.  I will always remember his affable nature, broad smile and tremendous generosity. He left an indelible mark both upon Lawrence and upon Bronxville.”

The Victor M. Samra Rooftop Garden will provide a meditative space for patients and their families receiving treatment at the Cancer Center year-round.
