The Planetree Alliance, a not-for-profit health-care services organization dedicated to facilitating patient-centered care, has announced that NewYork-Presbyterian Hospital is now a member of its hospital membership organization. NewYork-Presbyterian Hospital, one of the largest and most comprehensive healthcare institutions in the world, serves one in four patients in the New York metropolitan area.
"At NewYork-Presbyterian Hospital, clinical excellence and compassionate care go hand-in-hand. We are dedicated to offering patients and their families a comfortable, supportive, and empowering environment," says Dr. Herbert Pardes, President and Chief Executive Officer of NewYork-Presbyterian Hospital. "For these reasons, it furthers our clinical mission to join in partnership with Planetree, a group known for its expertise in implementing patient-centered care."
Planetree pioneered a national effort to change the way healthcare is delivered at hospitals. For 25 years, Planetree has facilitated the creation of healing environments and consumer-responsive, patient-centered approaches to care that result in a more personalized, humanistic patient experience. The Planetree Alliance is made up of nearly eighty hospitals across the country that are committed to developing and offering patient-centered facilities and care models at their hospitals.
"We welcome NewYork-Presbyterian Hospital into the Planetree Alliance," said Susan Frampton, President of Planetree. "NewYork-Presbyterian Hospital has a well-earned reputation as a healthcare leader and for delivering excellence in healthcare with compassion and caring, which makes this an exciting partnership. We are pleased that the leadership of NewYork-Presbyterian Hospital has recognized the accomplishments of Planetree, its vision of creating truly healing healthcare environments and the benefits of being part of the Planetree Alliance. We look forward to working with their leadership and staff to incorporate the components of the Planetree care model at NewYork-Presbyterian Hospital."
Planetree is celebrating the 25th anniversary of its founding by Angelica Thieriot, an Argentinean woman who was appalled by the cold, impersonal, and dehumanizing care she received during a hospitalization. Thieriot began a crusade that resulted in the founding of Planetree.
The Planetree Alliance was established in 1992. Griffin Hospital became the first member of the Planetree Alliance and now serves as the headquarters of the Planetree National office.
