NYP/Lawrence Welcomes Dr. Mitchell Benson, Columbia's Former Chair of Urology

Dr. Mitchell C. Benson, a distinguished urologist with a national reputation joined the staff of NewYork-Presbyterian Medical Group/Westchester in December, 2015. Dr. Benson is also a member of ColumbiaDoctors and is a Herbert and Florence Irving Professor of Urology. He is the past Chairman of the Department of Urology from 2005 to 2013 at NewYork-Presbyterian Columbia University Medical Center and Director of its Comprehensive Cancer Center from 2003 to 2005.
Dr. Benson, recognized as one of Castle Connolly’s America’s Top Doctors, will be seeing patient locally at 688 White Plains Road, Suite 201, in Scarsdale. The board-certified urologist began his affiliation with Columbia University College of Physicians and Surgeons in the Autumn of 1973 when he enrolled in Columbia P & S as a first year medical student. He recognized early in his training that he wished to pursue a career in Urology and following an internship and residency in general surgery at Mount Sinai Hospital in New York, he became a resident in Urology at The Presbyterian Hospital in New York in 1979. Following his chief residency in Urology at The Presbyterian Hospital, he went to Johns Hopkins Hospital and University where he was a Research Fellow in Urologic Oncology from 1982-1984.
The board-certified urologist has clinical expertise in bladder, kidney, urologic and prostate cancers. Dr. Benson also holds special training in robotic surgery, with expertise in robotic prostate and renal surgeries. To learn more or to schedule an appointment, please call 914-998-3842.
