New York Methodist Hospital offers a free Breastfeeding Support Group for new mothers. This group, which is also open to mothers who did not deliver their babies at NYM, meets weekly on Tuesdays from 2:30 p.m. to 3:30 p.m. The Breastfeeding Support Group focuses on providing encouragement and information for mothers and their newborns, from birth to three months old. A certified lactation consultant leads the group. The meetings take place in the Hospital's Wesley House, Rooms 3K-C, 501 Sixth Street, Park Slope, Brooklyn. The New York Methodist Hospital Cancer Support Group will meet on Thursday, July 5, 2012 from 3:00 p.m. to 4:30 p.m. Both a physician and a chaplain lead the group. For people who have lost premature or newborn infants, NYM also offers a Perinatal Bereavement Support Group which will meet later that evening (July 12) from 8:00 p.m. to 9:15 p.m. A licensed clinical social worker facilitates the group. Hepatitis C (HVC) is an infection caused by a virus that attacks the liver and leads to inflammation. The Centers for Disease Control estimates that over four million Americans are infected with HVC. New York Methodist Hospital hosts a Hepatitis C Support Group for people living with HVC and their loved ones. The group is directed by a physician specializing in liver disorders. Obesity is an epidemic that impacts over nine million Americans. More and more people who are affected by obesity are seeking information about surgical weight reduction. New York Methodist Hospital offers a free Surgical Weight Reduction Information Seminar and Support Group. This month the group will meet on Wednesday, July 11, 2012 from 6:00 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. and on Thursday, July 26 2012 from 5:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. During the first 30 minutes of the seminar, a surgeon will conduct an information session for individuals who are interested in learning about the surgery. A 90-minute support group meeting, open to pre- and post-operative patients will follow the information session.
