Cheryl R. Lindenbaum Cancer Center welcomes two new radiation oncologists

Two new radiation oncologists have joined the staff of Hudson Valley Hospital’s Cheryl R. Lindenbaum Comprehensive Cancer Center.
Celebrating its third year serving the community, the center continues to grow, adding new staff and technology. Joining the staff are Lawrence Koutcher, MD and Elizabeth Tapen, MD of Professional Radiation Oncology Services (PROS).
Dr. Koutcher received his medical degree from Cornell University, where he earned a National Cancer Institute Fellowship. Board certified in Radiation Oncology, Dr. Koutcher served as chief resident during his four-year residency at Memorial Sloan-Kettering’s department of radiation oncology. He is currently medical director of PROS. He is also an assistant professor of medicine at The Commonwealth Medical College (TCMC), and medical director of the Herb and Sue Ann Redl Center for Cancer Care at MidHudson Regional Hospital of Westchester Medical Center.
Dr. Koutcher is a member of ASTRO (the American Society of Therapeutic Radiology and Oncology) and NYSR (the New York Roentgen Society). He has published numerous abstracts and articles on current issues in cancer treatment, including IMRT for head and neck cancer, post-mastectomy radiation for breast cancer, and dose escalation in the treatment of non-small cell lung cancer.
Dr. Tapen received her medical degree from the University of Medicine and Dentistry in Camden, NJ. After completing an internship in internal medicine at St. Joseph’s Hospital in Phoenix, she performed her residency in radiation oncology at St. Mary’s Hospital in San Francisco. Prior to joining PROS, Dr. Tapen was director of radiation oncology at Eviti, Inc. in Philadelphia, and also served as medical director for Ulster Radiation Oncology Center in Kingston, NY. She was also director of clinical research in the radiation oncology department of the Comprehensive Cancer Center at Alta Bates Medical Center in Berkeley, CA.
Board certified in radiation oncology, Dr. Tapen has published research in prostate, lung, skin and breast cancer.
