Adults or children with epilepsy — including those who experience difficult-to-treat seizures, who are pregnant or have a women’s health, memory, mood, or sleep condition — are now able to undergo extensive monitoring as inpatients in our Critical Care Unit.
In collaboration with ColumbiaDoctors, the faculty practice of Columbia University Medical Center, the Epilepsy Monitoring Program uses state-of-the-art video equipment for recording the electrical activity of the brain. The technology allows clinicians at NewYork-Presbyterian Westchester and Columbia to observe any changes in a patient’s neurological condition in real-time and correlate behavioral changes to brain activity. This helps doctors make a faster diagnosis and more precise classification of epilepsy types for the treatment of epileptic and nonepileptiform seizures.
