[Flight Attendant Voice] "The bedroom door has now closed.
Please turn off all electronic devices for the duration of the night."
Think that sounds impossible? Lots of us do, but with a little planning, you're just a click away from waking up feeling refreshed and well rested.
And if you're ready, I'm going to help you get started.
Now, it may be hard to turn the TV off and put the smartphone, tablet, or computer down for the night ... because there always seems to be one more work email to send, a TV show to watch, or a video game to play.
What you may not know is that doing these things too close to bedtime can make it harder for you to wind down and get a good night's sleep.
And when you don't get enough sleep ... Well, you may feel cranky and stressed ... and you may not get as much done during the day or have enough energy to spend time with friends and family.
But there's some good news. You can help yourself unwind ... and get the quality of sleep you need ... by turning these devices off earlier.
This can help you get a better night's sleep.
And when you're well rested, you may be more productive ... feel less cranky and stressed ... and have the energy you need to connect with your friends and family.
Like with any new change, getting started is often the hardest part.
You may have your own ideas ... Here are a few more. Maybe one will work for you.
For example, one small step you can take is to keep your computer, TV, or smartphone out of the bedroom.
That can make it easier for you to wind down and get to sleep.
Or in the hours before bedtime, you might try dimming your screen so it's not so bright.
This can be a big help, because the light that comes from some devices ... like your TV, smartphone, or tablet ... may make it harder for you to fall asleep.
Maybe you can get your family or partner to power down with you.
Do a quiet and relaxing activity together instead of working online or checking emails.
You might find it helpful to keep track of how you slept and how you feel in the morning after using ... or not using ... your computer or smartphone close to bedtime.
Maybe noticing the difference will help you stay committed to powering down.
Remember, taking small steps to powering down can bring great rewards ... A better night's sleep and more energy for work and play.
[Flight Attendant Voice] "Final call ... all electronic devices must be turned off and stored away from your bedroom for the duration of the night."
