Depression: Balancing Brain Chemicals (00:00:37)

Video Transcript

Good health is all about balance.

That's true for your body ... and your mind.

Depression happens when the chemicals in your brain get out of balance, which makes it hard for the signals to get through.

Let me give you another example ... When people have diabetes, their bodies aren't able to keep their blood sugar in balance.

So sometimes they need to take regular doses of a medicine that helps restore that balance.

People with depression have the same kind of problem with their brain chemicals.

But regular doses of antidepressants can keep these chemicals in balance.
