Philanthropy in Action

This Pride, NYP Has A Lot to Celebrate

By Niall Keane, NYP Major Gifts Officer

Each June, NewYork-Presbyterian comes together to celebrate Pride Month and reaffirm our commitment to delivering comprehensive healthcare to members of the lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender and queer communities. This year, we are thrilled that once again, NewYork-Presbyterian has been named by the Human Rights Campaign as an “LGBTQ+ Healthcare Equality Leader," reflecting the inclusive practices and policies for our patients, visitors, and employees.

As an academic medical center, we are advancing research and innovations every day to improve health outcomes for members of the LGBTQ+ community. We are especially proud of our comprehensive HIV and STI programming, which was established at the height of the AIDS epidemic and continues to serve thousands of patients annually.

To bring that mission to more patients than ever before, we have launched a Sexual Health Mobile Medical Unit. The mobile medical unit is stationed in neighborhoods with higher incidences of STIs, and through partnerships with local organizations aims to treat marginalized individuals—particularly those who may feel uncomfortable going into the hospital.

Philanthropy powers our ability to care for the LGBTQ+ community. Gifts like yours help ensure that we can reach even more patients and empower them to live their true, healthy lives.
