Renowned gastroenterologist Dr. Robert Burakoff has joined Weill Cornell Medicine in dual key roles as vice chair for ambulatory services for the Weill Department of Medicine at Weill Cornell Medicine, and as site chief for the Division of Gastroenterology and Hepatology at NewYork-Presbyterian Lower Manhattan Hospital and Weill Cornell Medicine. As a digestive-focused physician, Dr. Burakoff gains membership into the CADC and will collaborate with other member physicians.
Dr. Burakoff's research and clinical practice has focused on the study and treatment of inflammatory bowel diseases (Crohn's disease and ulcerative colitis) as well as the role of inflammation in gastrointestinal motility disorders such as GERD. Dr. Burkaoff's current research includes the translational study of blood-based markers to differentiate between Crohn's disease and ulcerative colitis and determine the severity of the identified disease.
In his new dual roles, Dr. Burakoff will focus on increasing access to Weill Cornell's physicians as well as patient satisfaction and efficiency of service. His presence will expand offerings at New York Presbyterian Lower Manhattan Hospital, including continued growth of the hospital's IBD treatment presence.
Dr. Burakoff joins Weill Cornell Medicine from Brigham and Women's Hospital, where he served as clinical chief of the Division of Gastroenterology and director of the Center for Digestive Health since 2003.
