NewYork-Presbyterian Brooklyn Methodist Hospital combines the award-winning expertise of Weill Cornell Medicine physicians, experienced healthcare staff, the intellectual energy of graduate residency and fellowship training programs, and the latest technologies to provide compassionate, culturally sensitive care to Brooklyn’s residents.
The NewYork-Presbyterian Brooklyn Methodist Hospital Radiation Oncology Residency Training Program is fully accredited by the Accreditation Council for Graduate Medical Education (ACGME). We are a community-based program with accreditation from the American College of Radiology. We offer four years of post-graduate training in the specialty of radiation oncology following the completion of a year of training in an ACGME-accredited medical, surgical, or transitional-year internship.
Our faculty includes:
- Radiation oncologists
- Medical physicists
- Radiation biologist
The department has:
- Megavoltage linear accelerators (Varian TrueBeam, Clinac iX)
- Siemens Somatom large-bore CT simulator
- Advanced image-guided radiotherapy
This includes intensity-modulated radiotherapy, volumetric-modulated arc therapy, and stereotactic radiotherapy.
On our premises, we perform:
- All types of Stereotactic Radiosurgery
- Stereotactic Body Radiation Therapy (SBRT)
- Respiratory gated and deep Inspiratory Breath Hold Technique (DIBH) when indicated
- Contact HDR brachytherapy
- LDR prostate implants
- Balloon-based accelerated partial breast irradiation offered to select patients
- High-dose-rate treatments delivered by a Varian GammaMedPlus Iridium-192 remote afterloader.
- Low dose Brachytherapy (LDR) for prostate and intracranial seed implants.
- Radiopharmaceutical therapy
We are a main member of the NRG cooperative group (RTOG, NSABP, GOG).
We are also a clinical affiliate of the University of Wisconsin-La Crosse Medical Dosimetry Masters Program and the NewYork-Presbyterian Brooklyn Methodist Hospital School of Radiation Therapy.

Examinations
Each year, residents are required to take the In-Service Training Examination administered by the American Board of Radiology. This comprehensive exam covers clinical oncology, radiation physics, and radiobiology. It is intended to prepare residents for the written board examinations and evaluate their performance relative to peers at the same level in training.
The exam also helps the program director and residents identify areas where improvement may be needed in basic science or clinical knowledge. The RAPHEX exam is also given annually, specifically to assess physics proficiency.
We participate in the National Resident Matching Program. Applications are accepted through the Electronic Residency Application Service.
