Typical Rotation Schedule

During each year of training, the house officer assumes more and more responsibility for direct patient care.

PGY-1 Categorical

  • General Medical Rotations: 7 Months
  • Ambulatory Medicine: 2 Months
  • Memorial Sloan-Kettering Cancer Center: 1 Month
  • Intensive Care Unit: 1 Month
  • Vacation: 1 month

PGY-1 Preliminary

  • General Medical Rotations: 9.5 Months
  • Elective: 1 Month
  • Intensive Care Unit: 2 Weeks
  • Vacation: 1 month

PGY-2

  • General Medical Rotations: 3 Months
  • Ambulatory Medicine: 2 Months
  • Elective: 1 Month
  • Critical Care Units (ICU, Pulmonary Stepdown, & CCU): 5 Months
  • Vacation: 1 month

PGY-3

  • General Medical Rotations: 3 Months
  • Ambulatory Medicine: 2 Months
  • Elective: 2.5 Months
  • Critical Care Units (ICU, Pulmonary Stepdown, & CCU): 2 Months
  • Medical Triage/Medical Consultations: 1.5 Months
  • Vacation: 1 month
