Why Choose Us

Exceptional Experience

The Children's Hospital of New York has one of the largest and most successful pediatric heart transplant programs in the world. With nearly 4 decades of success, many of our heart transplant recipients now have families of their own. The world's first successful heart transplant in a child was performed at Columbia Presbyterian Medical Center in June 1984 on a four-year-old boy with complex congenital heart disease. Since then, more than 600 children—ranging in age from less than one year to 24 years old—have received new hearts at NewYork-Presbyterian Morgan Stanley.

High-volume pediatric heart transplant center

Today, NewYork-Presbyterian Morgan Stanley Children's Hospital performs about 25 pediatric heart transplants per year—typically more than any other hospital in the United States. We are ranked as one of the highest-volume pediatric heart transplant centers in the nation with outcomes exceeding national and local benchmarks, as reported by the Scientific Registry for Transplant Recipients (SRTR)—100% 1-month and 96.2% 1-year survival outcomes, compared with the national average of 97.6% and 91.4%, respectively.
