Exceptional pediatric care in Manhattan

NewYork-Presbyterian Komansky Children's Hospital, part of the Children's Hospital of New York, is committed to improving the health of infants, children, and adolescents through high-quality patient care, scientific research, and family advocacy.

With doctors from Weill Cornell Medicine, we bring pediatric expertise to communities throughout the metropolitan area, providing convenient access to care on the Upper East Side of Manhattan. Our hospital also serves as a global referral destination for complex pediatric conditions — welcoming patients from across the country and around the world seeking advanced treatments and specialized care. We offer:

  • Innovative pediatric heart surgery from leading Weill Cornell Medicine experts
  • Specialized care for children with burn injuries through the William Randolph Hearst Burn Center
  • Our Level 4 Comprehensive Epilepsy Center, a major referral site for children with hard-to-control seizures

Leading with family-centered care

NewYork-Presbyterian Komansky Children's Hospital provides outstanding medical care in a family-centered environment. Family-centered care is an approach in which families, doctors, nurses and hospital staff partner together, maintaining open communication and recognizing the individual strengths and expertise each person brings to a child's care.

In addition to advanced care and medical services, our teams offer a range of support programs and resources to make families as comfortable as possible:

Child life specialists

Certified Child Life Specialists employ a mix of education, play, therapeutic, and self-expression activities to help children cope with their hospitalization and illness. They also provide information and support to families and advocate for family-centered care and the needs of the hospitalized child.

Creative arts therapy

Creative arts therapies allow your child to express himself or herself and can help make the hospital environment more manageable. A session with a licensed and board-certified art or music therapist offers your child the opportunity to make choices and gain control in an environment where he or she doesn't always have those options. Art therapy and music therapy are both available to your child and your family by referral. For more information, reach out to your child life specialist, nurse, social worker, or physician.

Family Advisory Council

The Family Advisory Council (FAC) is a group of dedicated parents and family members of pediatric patients who are committed to working with hospital staff and administration to provide family-centered care to all patients.

NYC Hospital School Program

Hospitalized children in grades K through 12 can keep up with their studies through the Hospital’s school program, which provides a teacher certified through the New York City Department of Education. Please speak to the Hospital’s schoolteacher for more information. In addition to providing classroom or bedside instruction on-site, the program maintains a close liaison with your child’s home school and facilitates the provision of remedial help or tutoring as needed. Teachers also help prepare and administer city- and state-required tests, including Regents exams, the SAT, and the GED exam.

Leaders in adolescent bariatric surgery

NewYork-Presbyterian earned accreditation for adolescent bariatric surgery by the Metabolic and Bariatric Surgery Accreditation and Quality Improvement Program (MBSAQIP®) – the first accredited adolescent program in New York State and one of only a few nationwide.
