Tim Sweeney

Tim was diagnosed with cystic fibrosis when he was two years old. Cystic fibrosis is a genetic disorder in which the body produces a thick mucous that clogs the lungs. When he was 31 years old, Tim was informed that without a double-lung transplant he would die within 18 months. On November 10, 2008, Dr. Sonett performed the lifesaving transplant with only two small incisions, allowing Tim to recover quickly. On the first anniversary of his transplant, Tim and Dr. Sonett ran the New York City Marathon—crossing the finish line together.
