Jessica Chipkin

Jessica suffered from Wilson's disease—a rare genetic disorder of the liver. She went into acute liver failure, and without a transplant she wouldn’t survive. “NewYork-Presbyterian wound up being the place I needed to be. It was the place that could give me a second chance at life. They have a liver transplant program that some hospitals don’t have, and they have specialists that understand Wilson’s disease.” For nine days, Jessica waited in the ICU for her transplant. Just before her 22nd birthday, she received her gift of life. Jessica now volunteers to educate others about organ donation.
