About Us
The Jay Monahan Center for Gastrointestinal Health is a clinical center of the NewYork-Presbyterian and the Weill Medical College of Cornell University.
We provide integrated care, focusing on prevention, screening, treatment, support, research, and education for individuals who have or are at risk for developing gastrointestinal cancers. These cancers include those of the colon, rectum, pancreas, esophagus, liver, bile duct, gallbladder, stomach, small intestine, and anus.
The Center is named in honor of Jay Monahan, the late husband of journalist Katie Couric. The Monahan Center opened its doors officially on March 30, 2004.
What We Do
- We provide a multidisciplinary approach to care, coordinating health and support services for our patients and their families.
- We conduct cutting-edge prevention, screening, diagnosis, and treatment research to advance the prevention and treatment of gastrointestinal cancers.
- We provide education on the prevention, screening, and treatment of gastrointestinal cancers for our patients, their families, the public and health professionals worldwide.
- We collaborate with professional societies, outreach organizations, patient advocacy groups, and help eradicate gastrointestinal cancer in the United States and abroad.
Our Founding Partners
The Jay Monahan Center for Gastrointestinal Health was established, in part, through generous funding from the Entertainment Industry Foundation's National Colorectal Cancer Research Alliance (EIF's NCCRA), an organization co-founded by Katie Couric. Together with Katie, members of the EIF's NCCRA team have lent their extraordinary commitment and vision to create this state-of-the-art facility for the prevention and treatment of gastrointestinal cancers.
EIF's NCCRA is dedicated to the eradication of colon cancer by promoting education about the importance of early medical screening and funding cutting-edge research to develop better tests, treatments, and ultimately, a cure.

Our Research Partners
The Linda Horowitz Cancer Research Foundation (LHCRF) was formed to honor the memory of Linda Horowitz, beloved wife, mother, and friend, who died after a valiant battle with pancreatic cancer.
The LHCRF serves to raise important funds for cancer research and to help others in their fight against cancer. The LHCRF has provided generous funding to establish The Linda Horowitz Cancer Research Foundation Clinical Scholar Award at the Monahan Center, providing much needed support for research in the prevention and treatment of pancreatic and other gastrointestinal cancers.
