Urologic Surgery
Currently, nearly all urological cancer surgery and reconstructive surgery can be performed using robotic surgery. Robotic surgery is a specialized form of laparoscopic, minimally invasive surgery. This advanced technology allows our surgeons to perform complex operations through just a few small incisions. The system we use features magnified, 3D high-definition visualization capabilities and tiny, wristed instruments that bend and rotate with greater precision and dexterity than the human hand.
As a result, robotic surgery enables your surgeon to operate with enhanced vision, precision and control. Robotic surgery minimizes postoperative pain, significantly shortens recovery and allows for a quicker return to normal activities.
All our urologists at NewYork-Presbyterian Queens perform robotic surgery, including:
- Robotic radical prostatectomy for prostate cancer
- Robotic simple prostatectomy for benign prostate enlargement
- Robotic partial and radical nephrectomy for kidney tumors
- Robotic radical cystectomy with urinary diversion for bladder cancer
- Robotic adrenalectomy for adrenal tumors
- Robotic pelvic and retroperitoneal lymph node dissections
- Robotic inguinal lymph node dissection for penile cancer
- Robotic sacrocolpopexy for female pelvic organ prolapse
- Robotic reconstructive procedures, including pyeloplasty and ureteral reimplantation
